BHM2501

Objective

Baumhaus designs and builds the treehouses you’ve always dreamed of, places to let your imagination wander.  We set out to create a brand that captures that sense of possibility and reflects the studio’s love of craft, with a little Bauhaus built in.

Project Information

Client — Baumhaus
Scope — Brand Identity / Visual Design System
Date Completed — 2026

Project Description
Founded by Wade Miller, Baumhaus creates custom treehouses and small spaces for play, retreat, and time together. Each project starts with the landscape and the people who will use it. We wanted the brand to feel right for someone giving a treehouse the same consideration as the rest of their home.

We built the identity around a custom geometric wordmark and bird icon, with playful proportions and a restrained palette. The bird is at home among the trees, drawn from simple geometric forms to feel like a maker’s mark. Photography and the website bring the brand to life. Behind Baumhaus is the belief that even a small space can become a big part of someone’s life, a place shaped with care and anchored in the people themselves.

01 – Overview

Wordmark // Icon
Baumhaus means “treehouse” in German. The name’s echo of Bauhaus carries through a custom wordmark built from bold, geometric letterforms. Subtle adjustments to proportion, spacing, and curvature introduce a sense of play while maintaining a strong, structured foundation.

A complementary bird icon was developed as a secondary identifier, using simplified forms and a consistent visual weight to create a recognizable mark that works independently from the wordmark.

Logotype Explorations
For the Baumhaus wordmark, we took inspiration from Bauhaus experiments in modular typography, where letters were assembled from a small set of geometric forms. Using circles, triangles, and squares as our starting point, we explored how changes in proportion and arrangement could give the same name different personalities.

We then refined the curves, spacing, and connections between letters, finding a rhythm that felt structured and playful. The aim was a wordmark with a character of its own, while keeping the name clear and legible.

Color & Typography
For the color palette, we took inspiration from the Bauhaus’s use of primary colors alongside black and white, then softened and warmed those tones for Baumhaus. Taupe, off-white, and black form the foundation, drawing on the materials and environments of the studio’s work. Blue, yellow, and red are reserved for selective use in physical applications such as paper and fabric.

The typographic system pairs a contemporary sans serif typeface with a functional supporting monospace typeface, establishing a clear hierarchy across print and digital applications.

PhotographyThe photography direction was developed to capture the person and process behind Baumhaus, with an emphasis on the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define its work. A combination of studio and environmental photography provides a closer look at the design process while establishing a connection to the natural world.

The art direction focuses on natural lighting, thoughtful compositions, and tactile details, highlighting the materials and intention behind each project. The resulting imagery brings a human quality to the identity that extends across brand applications.

Website
The website translates the visual identity into a responsive digital experience, using a minimal layout system that prioritizes imagery, typography, and clear navigation.

The site combines flexible content sections with generous spacing and a restrained use of color. The design was refined across desktop and mobile to maintain consistency in typography, image presentation, and overall hierarchy.
